A little over a month ago I was contacted by Wayfair to participate in a DIY challenge along with some other bloggers. If you are not familiar with Wayfair, you are in for a treat. Their tagline is ‘a zillion things home’ and though I haven’t counted, my guess is they are close. An online retailer, they offer everything from rugs to the kitchen sink. I’m serious, you can buy a kitchen sink, along with trampolines, furniture, baby monitors…you get the picture.
The rules of the challenge were that I choose one of three products to transform anyway I wanted with the help of a $50 gift card from Giftcards.com.
My three choices were a bookcase, a pendant light or a coffee table.
Since I was in the market for a light for my son’s room, I went with the pendant light (#2 above). With my $50 gift card, I purchased a can of orange spray paint, an industrial style wire cage from Barn Light Electric and an nostalgic Edison-style light bulb from Lowes.
This is what I started with. A great start but I wanted to add a little color to coordinate with the oranges and blues that I was adding to my son’s room. Plus, I’ve been swooning over Layla and Kevin’s industrial-style barn light ever since I saw it.
Next, I took the pendant outside to spray on a coat of Rust-oleum spray paint in an orange gloss.
After it dried, I added the wire cage and Edison light bulb and replaced the nondescript boob light with the new vintage industrial style light that I’ve seen for several $100 elsewhere.
I’m so happy with the results and can’t wait to finish the rest of the room.
I’m sending out a big thank you to the team at Wayfair for including me in this challenge. To see other fabulous bloggers and their AMAZING transformations, check out Wayfair’s DIY Blogger Challenge board on Pinterest.
