It’s been a while since I gave an update on the project to convert our dining room to a home office. The last I wrote, I figured out that the two bookcases that I had bought on Craigslist were too large for the space.
So, I’ve relisted them on Craigslist and am hoping to get our money back (we only paid $60 for both of them). However, they take up so much room, I don’t want to buy anything else until they are out of here. Plus, I’d like to use the money we get for them towards other furniture options.
In addition, since painting and making curtains for the space, we’ve changed the plan for the office layout. Currently, we have one desk and two computers. Unfortunately, the one desk only seats one person and even though one of the computers is a laptop, we both want our own desk space. So, we’ve decided to make the office a two person office with one long desk (or two desks side by side) flanking the long wall of the dining room. Originally, my inspriration pictures looked more like this, with one desk in the middle of the room and some bookcases or storage against the long wall.
With the new two person plan, my concept has changed and my inspiration pictures look more like this:
Now will our office look like any of these? Probably not. But I’m using these images as visual space planners to help me figure out how to get two desks against one wall. We’ve been looking at some ikea pieces that we will most likely use to build the desks. Ikea’s Vika product line is modular and inexpensive and comes with several different base options, as well as different size desktops.
I’m itching to get this room set up and hope to be able to make a trip to Ikea this weekend.
Do you know any other options for affordable two person desks?
