So, I thought I had invented this delicious new treat but one quick search on Pinterest and I discovered that it’s been done before…by Betty Crocker. Well, at least I’m in good company. Betty’s version (we’re on a first name basis) called for corn syrup (bad, Betty, bad) and a teaspoon of vanilla (good, Betty, good). However, I like to take shortcuts and go with the basics, keeping my ingredients list to four simple ingredients. Think Rice Krispie Treats but with Golden Grahams and chocolate chips…mmmmm.
I used dark chocolate chips because of it’s health benefits, mmmkay. Psych – I just love dark chocolate and could eat the whole bag. The fact that dark chocolate is good for my brain, heart and full of antioxidants is a happy accident.
The directions are easy. If you know how to make Rice Krispie treats, you won’t even need to write this down. Melt butter and marshmallows over medium heat and stir in Golden Grahams. Remove from heat and add chocolate chips. Stir.
Place mixture in a baking pan or pyrex dish sprayed with cooking spray. Cool in fridge for 1 hour.
I know some of you like to eat your Rice Krispie treats warm, but these really need to cool to harden. Otherwise, they are a gooey mess. Cut or break apart to serve.
Have you ever “invented” a recipe, only to find out it’s been done before?
